I'm very excited to photograph Jamie and Justin's wedding next year; in the meantime we needed to schedule a time for some engagement photos! Jamie suggested a few locations, one being Fort Williams...and while I love it there I was hoping to take them somewhere new! So I semi-jokingly suggested Fort Gorges, an old military fort built on Hog Island Ledge in Casco Bay, Maine that I've always wanted to visit...The next thing I knew (thanks to some strings pulled by Jamie) the three of us were on a water taxi heading out to the Fort at high tide, which is the only time it's accessible by boat, meaning we were going to be stranded on an island until the following day. What could possibly happen?! The series 'LOST' immediately crossed my mind, as did the movie 'Castaway'. Did we make it out alive? Check the photos below to see what this little adventure had in store for us.
Off we go! I don't think we brought enough gear.
Jamie looking pretty stoked to go inside!
She also came prepared with a mason jar filled with a mysterious liquid resembling water...and Justin with some Dale's also holding a delish turkey sandwich.
Wait, why you mixing that water with OJ?
Apparently the other side of this wall wasn't as exciting we'd hoped.
It's a long way to the top...
Ahoy! People on sailboats.
Fort Gorges? More like Fort Gorgeous!
Don't worry, he's allergic.
This guy.
Wait guys, I thought it was just a dream that a jet ski had washed ashore?!
^...and this would be the last photo I shot for the day before begging to play hide and seek, and then falling asleep on top of my sleeping bag. No camping invovled...nope, none at all.
Good morning! Believe it or not, cement is comfy!
As it turns out cement is more comfortable than grass. Tequila sunrise at sunrise anyone? Thanks for creepin' on me while I was asleep guys :)
At least one person who vandalized the walls here put some effort into it.
I guess the ring Justin got her wasn't big enough.
...and back to the real world we go! I had such a great time with these two. There's not too many other ways you could get to know a couple more than camping out with them on a secluded island. I would love to do this again and again! Cannot wait for their wedding, 5/14/16!
You may or may not have noticed this little blue box with speakers built into it lying around. That would be the Demerbox. It's a Bluetooth enabled wireless speaker system, it's waterproof, can store and charge your phone, and sounds really really good with some tremendous bass response! I just wanted to thank the people at Demerbox for this amazing device which kept the tunes blasting at full volume for over 13 hours (not even halfway close to draining the battery). Without it we would have never been able to truly test the acoustics of Fort Gorges with the amazing vocals provided by the late, great Ronnie James Dio, and others :)
